SITE: Branched Oak State Recreation Area (15 miles northwest of Lincoln - View map)

STATE PARK PERMITS: State park permits are needed for vehicles to enter Branched Oak State Recreation Area. Permits may be purchased at the park. Any overnight docking arrangements should be made with the marina owner (402) 783-3311.


8-8:30 a.m. – Arrive and rig boat. (Hobie beach and the marina will be available for use)

9 a.m. – Registration, check-in and packet pick-up begins.

9:15 a.m. – Skippers meeting. Registration and packet pick-up will close 15 minutes after skippers meeting.

10:30 a.m. – First race.

Noon – Lunch provided. 

6 p.m. – Racing done, dinner/social event at either Marina Restaurant or docks area TBD 

NOTE: Registration table and skipper meetings will be held at the fire pit by the middle docks, east of the marina store.

Participants are encouraged to download and install RaceQs for IPhone and Android phones. RaceQs is a tracking app that allows participants to playback a race and also allows for a five-minute delayed internet broadcast so participants may more easily follow the race from shore in near real time. Please install and familiarize yourself with its function before the skippers meeting. Instruction sheets will be available at the registration desk.

Portsmouth scoring (no correction for wind speed) with fleets: Catamaran Open, Laser/Dinghy Open, Cruiser open. If four of the same boat register, they will be given their own fleet, unless 3-or-less similar boats need to join their fleet. Crew can come and go, be substituted, etc., as long as the sailing director is notified of this at the skippers meeting. Crew changes not allowed based on weather or forecast.

The event will consist of about five races. At least one race will be before lunch, with time to eat and tune boat before heading back out, then the remainder of the races. No races starting after 5 p.m.

RULES: USSA and class rules will apply. Class membership is not required.

AWARDS: Custom Cornhusker State Games gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to each crew member of the top three finishing boats in each class.

PACKET PICK-UP: Athlete packets for Sailing participants will be available the morning of the event during check-in, located at the fire pit by the middle docks, east of the marina store.

OPENING CEREMONIES AT SEACREST FIELD: Sailing participants wanting to attend or participate in the Opening Ceremonies must contact Sport Director Joe Heinzle at or 402-770-2789 to reserve tickets.

Entry Fees

$25 per sailor PLUS $10 per boat

ONLINE AND ON-SITE ENTRY . Registration can be done online and also day of. Registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m. Participants are encouraged to download the Sailing entry form and bring the completed entry form, along with payment, to the check-in tent the morning of the event.

ENTRY FEE INCLUDES: Competition in the 2017 Cornhusker State Games; White cotton athlete shirt (micro-fiber upgrade available); Pass for free admission to SportFest, the Opening Ceremonies, and all competition venues; 2017 Nebraska Sports Council Yearbook (available at packet pickup); Sponsor gifts and coupons.

Boxed lunches will be provided.
