AWARDS: Custom Cornhusker State Games gold, silver and bronze medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each division. Iron man/woman award will be given to the overall best competitor in all three weapons, as well as best overall competitor from Nebraska. Other awards may be available.
Energy Sword is a stunt or combat grade version of a popular weapon as seen in a movie featuring a farm boy from a desert planet rescuing a princess with the aid of a smuggler and his really hairy friend. The term most often used is a copyrighted term. This same weapon has been featured in tournaments held by The Sabre Legion, although this is not an official TSL tournament.
Further note: Standard store versions of this weapon will not be permitted. Only the higher end, stunt quality weapons are allowed for safety reasons. A few standard weapons will be available for use.
Exotic Energy Sword
SCHEDULE OF EVENTS:
Saturday, July 20
9 a.m. Energy Sword
1 p.m. Exotic Energy Sword
Rules will be available at https://www.facebook.com/Cornhusker-State-Games-Energy-Sword and http://starpaw.com/energy-sword/.
Basic safety requirement:
Fencing mask for all weapons. Protective jacket for all events. Women will wear a chest protection. Sturdy hand protection. Gorgets required. Men must wear a protective cup. Joints must be protected.
Equipment will be inspected at event. This means someone may hit you with a stick to check that all safety gear is in place. If you do not have appropriate equipment, and none is available to borrow, you will not be able to participate.
Judging: All fencers will be required to help judge events that they are not currently fighting in. Traditionally, one pool judges for another pool, and so on.
Direct Eliminations: The top eight fencers out of pools will fence in direct eliminations. If there are eight fencers after that, they will fence in direct eliminations amongst themselves, for a different set of medals. If there are another eight after that, a third tier. This is new this year, so be patient. More fencing possible for everyone.
Costumes/Garb: This particular weapon draws a lot of interest from those who wish to dress the part, as it were. Appropriate outfits are permitted with the following caveats:
1: Safety first. All protective gear must remain. If there is any question as to whether part of an outfit is unsafe, the tournament director will have final say.
2: If an outfit features flowing parts, such as sleeves, the participant must recognize that the flowing part might be struck and registered to the judges as if it was a good blow.
3: No capes. Or, at least, no capes during actual fighting.
