LINCOLN, Neb. (June 4, 2021) Cornhusker State Games (CSG) Officials have announced details of its in-person Torch Run routes beginning with a 23-mile leg into Sidney on Friday, June 11.

The following day, June 12, the Torch will make its way from the Wyoming border to the West All-Star Football Game in Scottsbluff. Other western Nebraska routes will be run on Tuesday, June 15 into McCook’s Walmart for a grant presentation and Wednesday, June 16 into the NEBRASKAland Days Buffalo Bill Rodeo in North Platte.

The in-person Torch Run routes, which were added in response to local requests amid the easing of Covid-19 guidelines statewide, are not open for public participation. However, all runners are welcome to participate in the virtual Torch Run which began May 24 and has runners registered from 85 of Nebraska’s 93 counties.

“As restrictions were eased, some of our local Torch Run organizers began setting up mini-routes, mainly to blend the spirit of the State Games into local celebrations. For example, our first route starts west of Sidney and finishes at the town’s Gold Rush Days,” Executive Director Dave Mlnarik said.

“We have groups of runners lined up by our local leaders, so there is no public registration for the in-person routes, but anyone can participate for free in the virtual Torch Run. We are confident that all 93 counties will be represented again,” Mlnarik added.

The 2021 virtual format features four regions, each with a two-week window for runners to complete their mile. Region 1 consists of the 11 panhandle counties and runs May 24-June 6. Region 2 encompasses 25 west-central counties from June 7-June 20. East-central counties run June 21-July 4 and eastern counties July 5-18.  Runners can view the map and register at:  https://www.cornhuskerstategames.com/torch-run

Major Torch Run prizes up for grabs include one overall grand prize, a $250 Scheels gift card; four $100 top regional prizes, and daily gift-card and free-entry certificates throughout the eight weeks. Prize winners and runner photos will be posted daily on the CSG Torch Run Facebook Page.
