LINCOLN, Neb. (June 24, 2026) — Athletes looking to compete in the 2026 Cornhusker State Games have until Wednesday, July 1 at 11:59 p.m. to register for more than 70 sports featured in this year’s event. Competitions will take place July 9-19 in Lincoln, Omaha, Columbus, Fremont, Grand Island, North Platte and other communities throughout Nebraska.
Registrations are currently just over 5,000 participants and are on track to exceed 8,000, officials announced Wednesday. Athletes representing more than 224 Nebraska communities and 24 states have already signed up to compete. The top sports to date include: Hockey, Pickleball, Youth Track & Field, Bowling, and Adult Basketball.
Family participation remains a longstanding tradition of the Cornhusker State Games. Among the returning competitors are the Hanna family of Arthur, Nebraska. Zac, Jaycen, Bryce, and Cory Hanna won the 2025 4×1 Family Relay and are registered to compete again in Track & Field in 2026.
As one of the nation’s largest multi-sport festivals, the Cornhusker State Games welcomes athletes of all ages and skill levels. Athletes can choose from a wide variety of events, including traditional sports such as basketball, swimming, and volleyball, as well as unique competitions like chess, disc golf, and fencing.
The Games begin with Opening Night on Thursday, July 9, from 7–8 p.m. in front of Pinnacle Bank Arena. This free, family-friendly celebration will officially launch the Games and welcome athletes, families, and fans from across the state.
Athletes can view the full sport list and register online at CornhuskerStateGames.com. Most events are open for registration through July 1, with a few filling up quickly due to limited spots.
