Lincoln, Neb. (July 21, 2025)— The 2025 Cornhusker State Games concluded Sunday after its second weekend was held across Nebraska communities including Lincoln, Omaha, Weeping Water, Raymond, Grand Island, North Platte, and others.
The event drew over 7,700 participants across 73 sports, with Hockey drawing the largest number of athletes at 580 participants across six locations between Fremont, Omaha and Ralston. Track and Field followed closely with 540 athletes between youth and masters divisions. Shooting Sports brought in 463 participants, while wrestling featured 401 competitors.
In 5v5 Basketball, Team Cloud9 claimed gold in the Gold Bracket with a win over Team 402 at Lincoln Southwest High School. Cloud9 was led by former Husker basketball standouts Steffon Bradford and Deverell Biggs, whose on-court leadership helped guide the team to a championship finish.
Shooting Sports returned to Grand Island’s Heartland Shooting Park and featured events such as .22 Rifle Prone, .22 Rifle Silhouette, Adult Trap and Skeet, Rimfire Challenge, and Sporting Clays. Away from the park, Archery was held at the Grand Island Outdoor Range, where Dan Trumblee, Omaha, earned gold in the 450 BFHS division with a score of 442. Buck Umstead, Palmer, took silver with 436, and Cole Broekmeier, Central City, earned bronze with 419. Muzzleloading took place at Fort Atkinson Muzzleloading Range in Winslow.
Tennis was another major draw, held at Woods Tennis Center in Lincoln. A total of 505 matches were played by 371 athletes across divisions that included 234 junior matches, 47 mixed doubles contests, and 224 adult matches. In the 9.0 Doubles Division, Aaron Jank, Omaha, and Rachel Sotuard, Omaha, secured gold, Neelyey Remmers, Lincoln, and Garin Leehy, Lincoln, took silver, and Will Nguyen, Lincoln, and Crystal Craft, Roca, captured bronze.
The Adult Soccer final capped a high-energy tournament at Lincoln Sports Foundation, where Omaha’s Stroke City defeated Lincoln’s TMCO in overtime. After a scoreless regulation, Stroke City scored twice in overtime to clinch the gold medal.
Wrestling events took place at both Pius X High School and Spikes Beach Bar and Grille in Lincoln, covering Beach, Freestyle, Greco, and Folkstyle disciplines. Among the weekend’s most notable performances was 14-year-old Isaiah Reed, Lincoln, who competed in all four styles, finishing with an 18-1 record. Reed earned five medals and was honored with both the Iron Man Award and the Outstanding Wrestler Award for his age group.
