Lincoln, NE (June 30, 2021) –Nebraska Sports Council officials announced today that Jordyn Bahl, who last week was named the 2020-21 Gatorade national softball player of the year, will lead the Oath of Athletes at the Cornhusker State Games (CSG) Opening Ceremonies on Friday, July 16 at Lincoln’s Seacrest Field.

Bahl, who led Papillion-LaVista to Nebraska state high school championships three of the last four seasons, including undefeated seasons in 2019 and 2020, will join the reigning NCAA National Champion Oklahoma softball team this fall.

In a dominant senior season, the 5-foot-7 senior right-handed pitcher posted a 27-0 record with a 0.10 ERA. Bahl surrendered just 27 hits and 15 walks in 137 innings pitched, while striking out 316 batters. She also batted .510 with 20 home runs and 55 RBI after posting similar pitching and hitting stats over the 2019 season.

Prior to leading the CSG Oath of Athletes, Bahl will join Alex Gordon at a Meet-And-Greet with CSG Athletes from 6:15-7:45 p.m. on Den Hartog baseball field just East of Seacrest Stadium. The Opening Ceremonies, which is free to the public, begins at 8 p.m. and includes the parade of athletes, skydivers, fireworks and the lighting of the CSG Cauldron by Gordon, who retired last year after a stellar 14-year Major League Baseball career with the Kansas City Royals.

Officials also issued a reminder to register for the 2021 Cornhusker State Games before the July 5 registration deadline. The 37th annual Games features competition in more than 70 different sports for athletes of all ages and abilities. There are currently more than 6,000 registered, and officials expect a final total over 10,000.

Most events take place from July 16-25 at venues in and around Lincoln, Omaha, Kearney, Grand Island, and Columbus. Those interested can find information and register at CornhuskerStateGames.com.
